A lot of older people are very gifted in playing an instrument or composing song lyrics. Finding someone in our 'American Idol' culture to appreciate the talents of an unknown over 40 musician can be disheartening to those that love music and continue efforts to improve their musical skills. There are many who have composed beautiful melodies, but have no idea how to use some of the new home recording software to put their music on a CD. A lot of musicians I've met are concerned about Copyright and other ways to protect their music. I know quite a bit about this topic and can share free web sites that give useful information. I wrote my first song when I was 19. I was the opening act for the US Army Showband in West Germany. Just me and my guitar, performing my own songs for a 20 minute set. Most of my songs are ballads and I mis Blues, Bluegrass, Country and a bit of Jazz in my playing and melodic structures. I played guitar and sang in a few Rock bands until I got married and started my teaching career. I continued writing songs and played these for my students. I was approached to sell one of my songs, but nixed the deal when I was told another person would be listed as the composer. In the past 20 years I have only played on stage twice, but it was doing songs of top ten popular artists. I would love to find some people in my area who would like to jam and also try to develop their or my original compositions. I'm 54 and still play guitar everyday and I'm pretty doggone good at pickin'. I have lots of melodies with no lyrics. It's a longshot, but maybe I can find like-minded people who want to get together and jam. Maybe this won't happen for me, but maybe it will happen for others on this site. This site is for people who love music and want to help others who love music. Whatever type of music you want to share or discuss is welconed. This site is meant to benefit all over 40 who want to share their opinions, their knowledge, or who want to learn more about music.
